The Bible is the supreme source of revelation of the meaning of life…It is the only guide of life which really leads the spirit in the way of peace and salvation. (Woodrow Wilson); The fundamental basis of this nation’s laws was given to Moses on the mount. (Harry Truman); In regard for this Great Book, I have this to say, it is the best gift God has given to man. (Abraham Lincoln); That book, sir, is the Rock on which our Republic rests. (Andrew Jackson); Inside the Bible’s pages lie all the answers to all of the problems man has ever known…The Bible can touch our hearts, order our minds, and refresh our souls. (Ronald Reagan) Powerful words, words from the lips of men who led our country, former presidents, man who were among the most influential in our short history.
Before Israel entered the Promised Land, Moses had some stern warnings to this young, fledgling nation. They were never to forget that God had brought them “from the house of bondage,” led them “forty years in the wilderness,” “fed them with manna,” and brought them to a “land of wheat, and barley, and vines,” a land where they would not lack “any thing in it.” But with all these blessings came this exhortation “Beware that thou forget not the LORD thy God, in not keeping his commandments, and his judgments, and his statutes,” which God had given them. Once they were settled in this fruitful land, they may be tempted to lift up their hearts, and “forget the LORD (their) God,” to say in their hearts that their “power and the might of mine hand hath gotten me this wealth.” If they “would not be obedient unto the voice of the LORD,” they would “perish.”
As I read those stunning words of our former presidents, I wonder how we have managed to drift so far as a nation. We have been so blessed, and in the wake of those rich blessings, have become prideful and rebellious. Our forefathers established this nation on the foundation of that blessed Book, that Great Book, that supreme source of revelation, the book that can order our minds, and refresh our souls. How did we forget that “Righteousness exalteth a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people,” that “Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD.” Our nation has been blessed thanks to the faith of our fathers, those men who understood that a nation that forsakes God will “perish.” May our prayer be that God will hear the prayer of His children and raise up men to lead our nation, men that love the Lord and stand firmly upon His Word.
II Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.<div class='sharedaddy sd-block sd-like jetpack-likes-widget-wrapper jetpack-likes-widget-unloaded' id='like-post-wrapper-164683012-2783-63d7cc33e4c54' data-src='https://widgets.wp.com/likes/#blog_id=164683012&post_id=2783&origin=wp.blog.grandmasgleanings.com&obj_id=164683012-2783-63d7cc33e4c54' data-name='like-post-frame-164683012-2783-63d7cc33e4c54' data-title='Like or Reblog'><h3 class="sd-title">Like this:</h3><div class='likes-widget-placeholder post-likes-widget-placeholder' style='height: 55px;'><span class='button'><span>Like</span></span> <span class="loading">Loading...</span></div><span class='sd-text-color'></span><a class='sd-link-color'></a></div>
